This term can describe any number of activties where proximity to other objects or persons can create hazards for the participant. For example, close quarters combat can be a street fight in a cramped, dark alley somewhere in Denver or an ambush on an infantry patrol in a narrow, rocky crevasse in the mountains of Afghanistan. Close quarters docking can be attempting to maneuver a dinghy through a number of yachts and fishing boats in a marina.
