A form of sushi. The word "chirashi" literally means "to scatter" and unlike most sushi which is packed together into rolls or individual pieces, chirashi consists of an assorted variety of fish, vegetables, nori, and other sushi ingredients spread over a bed of rice. Unsurprisingly it is one of the easiest types of sushi to make and provides a great way to serve sushi to a larger group of people. Chirashi can either be served casually with ingredients mixed throughout the rice or more fancily with ingredients neatly arranged on top of the rice. In the latter case, if prepared by someone who is skilled at making it, Chirashi can be one of the most beautiful dishes one will see at any restaurant.
