A phrase uttered by Malcolm X after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Malcolm refused to join in the grief over JFK's death, but, rather, attempted to place the shooting in the context of a government (and society) that inflicts violence on others: the CIA was trying to kill Fidel Castro; US "advisors" were active in South Vietnam; despots worldwide were propped up with money and guns from Uncle Sam; domestically, there was violence against civil rights supporters.
