Chef's salt, or seasoned salt, is a blend of salt, pepper and other spices and/or herbs for use in cooking. It is used generally for seasoning meats and adding to preparations such as soups, gravies, casseroles; in short, any kitchen situation where a cook may wish to apply several seasonings. Chef's salt provides a convenient method of flavoring food without digging through an entire spice rack. Chef's salt provides more interesting flavor than plain salt. It may not be substituted for salt in baking, however.
