Russian for "white nights".

Beliye nochi refers to that time of year (mid-summer) when areas in Russia of sufficiently high latitude have 24-hours of daylight and sunshine.

Also one of the symbols of St. Petersburg, along with the drawbridges, Petropavlovka and so on. I lived on that latitude back in the days, and indeed, there is full sunshine at 10 PM, and in the midnight it's hardly a twilight.
