In baseball, a slider that is thrown by a right-handed pitcher to a left-handed batter, or by a left-handed pitcher to a right-handed batter, in an attempt to get a called strike. The backdoor slider starts off the plate outside and thus appears to be a ball, but is aimed such that by its natural motion it cuts back in at the last moment and catches the outside corner of the strike zone.
