According to Kurt Vonnegut (or rather a character of his creation), in his novel Bluebeard, a moment of true realization is not an epiphany but an anti-epiphany. This being because the word "epiphany" really means a divine revelation. But in our lives, we are so buffeted with religion and claims of god that we can never truly see or realize anything! It is only at a moment of anti-epiphany, when the clouds of religion and society, etc. part, that we can see whatever truth there is.
