I run into her
accidentally at the market
I give a shy smile
she reciprocates with the same

Under one arm is detergent
and on the other is her new love
She leaves an awkward silence before
she introduces us.

Oh have you met, my husband, my old friend
and when she says it I think,
Old friend, not in age but
as in not new, not current

Old friend, once was here
but now is not.
Not really a friend much at all
anymore.
