We would drive out of town in my Uncle's jeep

up in the hills above the suburbs,  miles off the highway

I brought a 12 pack of cheap beer,

she brought an old telescope

She preferred a certain part of the sky

particular constellations

Her favorites were not the brightest

obscure in both name and history

sometimes I could not even see it

It's there.  You just have to take my word for it

Her sister said she had a star map glued to the ceiling

over her bed, with that part circled

After the accident,  I never saw her room,

or the bed or the map

You just have to take my word for it

Last week I drove my Sentra out of town away from the lights but

the only thing in the sky were

clouds
