A company whose rather dubious business model was to give away computers and Internet access for free to schools. The idea was that the computers which ZapMe provided would display adspace, and let companies pay for the privilege of advertising to our nation's impressionable youth. Problem is, the only ads that were ever displayed were either for ZapMe itself, or for groups that didn't sell anything (e.g. Mothers Against Drunk Driving). Also, the satellite Internet connection that ZapMe provided was shitty. ZapMe was swallowed whole by rStar Networks, a satellite ISP, in December of 2000.
