The name of a concept and LP by Elektra, in the early 80's; an attempt to market jazz by creating young stars (in their 20s and 30s) in the age range of pop stars - making them more "marketable" in the eyes of the suits. It took off when CBS signed Wynton Marsalis and made him a household name. The other major labels jumped in, and soon a lot of new Lions got the hype treatment (often unjustified), while a lot of great players not in the demo (or not conservative enough) got ignored.
