Xiuhtecutli, also known as Huehueteotl-Xiuhtecuhtli, is the oldest of the Aztec or Mexica gods and his home was thought to be the center of the Universe. His glyph shows an old, toothless, hunchbacked man, his face being either yellow or red, carrying a large brazier on his back. His great age symbolizes his experience and wisdom. He is the god of light and fire, the god of life in death, light in darkness, warmth in cold, opposites and paradoxes. His wife was Chalchiuhtlicue, godess of water and vegetation, but she is also represented as the wife of Tlaloc.
