Yet another one of the Ruins of the Hudson Valley. Wyndcliffe is a crumbling Gothic mansion on a hill overlooking the Hudson River near Rhinebeck, New York.

Built in 1853 for Elizabeth Schermerhorn Jones (a cousin of Mrs. William B. Astor, and Edith Wharton's aunt), the large 23-room mansion was so imposing it is said to have inspired the phrase "Keeping up with the Joneses". Miss Jones lived alone at Wyndcliffe after the death of her brother Edward in 1869. The mansion was abandoned sometime after 1950. It still stands today, vacant and in a state of disrepair.
