An early (1953-1957) experiment in interactive television, "Winky Dink and You" featured animation segments in which our hero, Winky Dink, would require viewer assistance to complete a task.

Kids would put a clear piece of plastic onto the TV screen, then draw on it with erasable markers. For example, Winky Dink might be trying to cross a river, but would need you to draw a bridge which he would then walk across.

My mother got in trouble as a child because she once forgot to put the plastic screen onto the television, drawing directly onto the glass. She laughs about it now, but would you want a website telling kids to take a marker to the monitor?
