After Boone's wife was murdered, he reluctantly agreed to become protector to Da'an and resign his police commission.
All protectors are implanted with CVIs, devices that allow them to control their skrill weapons while simultaneously bending their minds to the will of the Taelons. However, Boone's CVI was modified without the Taelons' knowledge, allowing him to control the skrill without altering his allegiances. In return for their assistance in modifying the CVI, Boone became a double-agent, joining the Resistance against the Taelons.
Boone was apparently murdered by Zo'or at the beginning of the second season, but he was actually kept in stasis until Season 5. He briefly returned to help fight the Atavus, but he was killed (for real) during a hybrid uprising.
