I still remember walking along the road a week ago,
the remnant taste of the blotter tab still odd in my mouth

The concrete pavement melted with my every step,
the world shook as if revealing its mechanics and simulation,
the cars sped and slowed intermittently

I didn't trust my perception of the road,
I barely trusted my perception of the traffic light,
and I crossed, following the glowing white man

The day ripped open,
fell apart,
my life ruined from then on
