WRGPT, the World rec.gambling.poker Tournament, is an annual internet poker tournament. Started by poker enthusiasts from the Usenet rec.gambling.poker newsgroup in 1990, it has grown to over a thousand participants in WRGPT10 in 2000.

The tournament is no-limit Texas Hold-em played entirely through email. A program acts as dealer and manages all aspects of the game. The rules closely mirror those of the World Series of Poker, a real life poker tournament held annually at Binion's Horseshoe in Las Vegas. Each player buys in with $10000 worth of "etherbucks" (i.e. it is free) and play Hold-em at tables of 10 until one player is left, who carries away no prize except the coveted WRGPT Champion title.
