Server software that sits between a normal web server serving WML and a WAP-enabled mobile phone and acts as a proxy server. The WAP Gateway is responsible for reading raw text WML and converting it to compressed WAP bytecode and then sending this onto the mobile phone via WTP by converting the HTTP headers. It also performs minor caching. There are now some open source WAP gateways available on the internet.
