1885-1953 Russian painter joined a group of avant-garde painters and writers in Moscow, Odessa and St. Petersburg which were later known for working in the styles of Russian Futurism and Constructivism. During this period he designed for the theater and participated in exhibitions. After 'the revolution' Tatlin toed the party line and produced work that was 'officially authorized'. But in the 1930's the party rejected modern art altogether and he retired. Kasimir Malevich
