"Vikram" is the abbreviated name of King Vikramaditya, a powerful ruler in ancient India with a keen sense of justice and wisdom akin to King Solomon. His name has often been invoked in Hindu folktales in order to illustrate certain religious or philosophical points; whether he actually existed is a matter of some debate. He was primarily known for his many philantrophic deeds and his stories illustrate an uncanny willingness towards self-sacrifice in order to benefit others. A good example of Vikramaditya's tales can be found on this site in text form as Vikram And The Vampire.
