A $2000USD box, based on a Commodore Amiga that did kick-ass video effects. Its 3D portion, Lightwave was used for the effects in Babylon 5.
It was made by NewTek.

Note that NewTek also offers a Video Toaster NT, which offers more features than the old (really dated) Video Toaster/Flyer setup available for the Amiga system. It does realtime transactions / wipes on uncompressed D1 video, which is really wild. This baby is the best buy for under $3000, just be aware of the fact that you need hard drives that do 22MB/sec.
