Dating back to 1914, the U.S. Open Cup is the oldest competition in the United States and is among the oldest in the world. Open to all amateur and professional soccer teams in the United States, the annual U.S. Open Cup is an 85-year-old single-elimination tournament. In 1997, 32 finalists competed for up to $150,000 in prize money. The winning team is presented the Dewar cup, which looks a big lava lamp.

The cup is open to any soccer team in the United States - Amateur teams, semi-pro teams, all the way to first-division professional team from MLS.
