During the 80's, bands like Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth defined the genre thrash metal. Slayer's Reign in Blood and Metallica's Master of Puppets are usually referred to as the very definitions of thrash metal.

Thrash metal was also the main inspiration for the even more aggressive metal genre known as death metal, which also evolved into black metal.
