This is one of my favourite hymns, sung to Handel's Judas Maccabaeus. Written in 1884 by the Swiss musician Edmond Budry and translated into English in 1923, this hymn is a triumphal piece often sung at State occasions in the UK. Its associacion with Maccabaeus, a maritime theme, makes it a popular hymn with the Royal Navy at homecoming services (Maccabaeus is the theme played following the fanfare at the end of Wood's Fantasia on British Sea Songs, a Last Night of the Proms staple).

English Lyrics

Thine be the glory, risen, conq’ring Son;
Endless is the vict'ry, Thou o’er death hast won;
Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,
Kept the folded grave clothes where Thy body lay.
Thine be the glory, risen conq’ring Son,
Endless is the vict’ry, Thou o’er death hast won.

Lo! Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb;
Lovingly He greets us, scatters fear and gloom;
Let the church with gladness, hymns of triumph sing;
For her Lord now liveth, death hath lost its sting.
Thine be the glory, risen conq’ring Son,
Endless is the vict’ry, Thou o’er death hast won.

No more we doubt Thee, glorious Prince of life;
Life is naught without Thee; aid us in our strife;
Make us more than conq’rors, through Thy deathless love:
Bring us safe through Jordan to Thy home above.
Thine be the glory, risen conq’ring Son,
Endless is the vict’ry, Thou o’er death hast won.

Celui que j’adore, le Prince de paix;
