A proverb from Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time. This refers to the fear and panic felt by most human's who are subject to a Myrddraal's gaze. This gaze scares all people witless, though many who have had contact with them before will be familiar enough with it that it makes no real difference. The average person would faint, run away or just stand there stupidly. Some people who are consumed by a general bloodlust or a specific pathological hatred for shadowspawn do not feel it at all. In the case of Padan Fain, it is the Myrddraal who get scared.
