I always remembered it as being:

The wheels on the bus go round and round
round and round
round and round
The Wheels on the bus go round and round,
All day long.

or maybe that was the second verse...
The wipers on the bus go "Swish, swish, swish,
Swish, swish, swish, swish, swish, swish"
The wipers on the bus go "Swish, swish, swish"
All through the town.

The door on the bus goes open and shut
Open and shut, open and shut
The door on the bus goes open and shut
All through the town.

The baby on the bus says, "Wah, wah, wah!
Wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah!"
The baby on the bus says, "Wah, wah, wah!"
All through the town.

Jerry Lewis on the bus says, "Nice
LaDeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Jerry Lewis on the bus says, "Nice
LaDeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

All through the town.

This last verse's tonal qualities appeal to two and three year olds,
making it very easy to teach it to them while you babysit.
Their parents will thank you.
