As of 27 May 2007 there were 1,909 noders registered on a noder registry, a drop of 24 noders (or 1.25%) from about the same time last year.
It goes without saying that this number is purely indicative – many noder registries haven’t been updated, and there is probably some overlapping entries, yet if any census in the world was totally accurate we would be microchipped at birth.
The number of 1,909 noders is open to interpretation. After the last Census some compilers of noder registries revisited and updated their pages, and possibly culled out the names of inactive users. Still 1,909 is a respectable number – greater than 2005’s result, enough to initiate legislation through a petition or crew a few Spartan galleons.
Going through the statistics, some countries are beginning to drop out on us. The Scandinavians, previously prolific contributors, have been less active as usual, likewise with the Canadians. Somebody could develop a global warming hypothesis on this.
The Australians are also slightly down, as is Europe generally. And we have in the past year lost our sole contributors in Mauritius and Hungary. Perhaps only because of the growth in Britain has the exodus not been a complete rout. China continues its growth, and one new country has joined us - Slovakia.
The number of American noders has remained almost the same, but there has been some movement between states (especially from states which host universities that at one time attracted a bevy of E2 noders). But this year we finally have a noder in Vermont (welcome, Betsy!).
