The expression "The Big Enchilada" can be used to refer to any important person or boss. It entered common usage during the Watergate scandal in the United States in the early 1970s. When secret tapes from the Oval Office were played in court, members of CREEP (the committee to reelect the president) were heard referring to Attorney General John Mitchell as "The Big Enchilada." Americans have used the expression ever since.
