Formed in Scotland in 1997, The Beta Band was made "famous" by the scene in High Fidelity, where John Cusack says, "I will now sell five copies of The Beta Band's The 3 E.P.'s." and then puts on the record, and of course everyone buys it.

Showing influences ranging from early 80's hip-hop to Beck to Space Rock, as well as more blues and orchestral rock, they create a sound not found in any other band, complete with a DJ. Both albums they have released are worth a listen. The first, as mentioned above, is a compilation of three E.P.'s Champion Versions, Patty Patty Sound and Los Amigos del Beta Bandidos.

If you like any of the following, you will like The Beta Band: Air, Beck, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Jethro Tull, Gomez, Grandaddy, Modest Mouse, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, The Verve, and Tortoise.
