Tekwar

A series of novels, and later television series, by William Shatner. Slightly silly and campy, but not that bad on the whole. Fairly complex story lines, but suffice it to say it takes place the 2040s (2120 in the books) with the main character being an undercover cop by the name of Jake Cardigan.

The "tek" in Tekwar is an addictive drug-like thing that's actually a computer chip which stimulates the brain to conjure up virtual reality fantasies. Think Simsense if you're into ShadowRun.

Other notable characters include:

• Walter H. Bascom (William Shatner) - The crafty and oft times mysterious head of COSMOS Dectective Agency. Bascom has gotten Jake out of cryo to help battle the war against TEK.
• Daniel Cardigan - Older brother of Jake Cardigan. Died in the U.S.-Brazil War.
• Danny Cardigan (Marc Maaut, Christian Campbell) - Son of Jake Cardigan.
• Jake Cardigan (Greg Evigan) - Main character of TEKWAR. Jake was an undercover cop who got addicted to TEK and was framed by the TEKLORDS in the shooting deaths of Jake's old partners. Now Jake battles the TEK lords and his own addiction to the drug.
• Katherine Cardigan (Sonja Smits) - Former wife of Jake. Divorces him after he is sent to cryogenic incarceration.

The Theme song was probably the best part of the whole TV series; the song is "Real or not" by Warren Zevon.
