Talisker 10 Year Old is the working man's single malt scotch. It's not aged as long as most single malt scotches, but for the money its harder to find a more enjoyable and well-balanced scotch. It has a very substantial amount of peatiness, making it similar to an Islay, but you won't feel like you are eating a log, and it's got some beautiful and complex overtones to boot. And I can usually find it for well shy of $60 these days, which is saying something in this era of over-inflated scotch prices. A dangerous scotch, because you can easily polish off half a bottle before you realize what you just did.

Review

Color: dark gold
Nose: smokey, and peaty with a hint of sweetness
Body: light and suprisingly smooth
Palate: waves of flavor including smoke, no small amount of peat, honey, and spice
Finish: long, slow, and smooth, with just enough bite to remind you that maybe there's some alcohol in here. This is the most dangerous part.

Score: 86/100
