Tal Shiar

The Tal Shiar is another organization from the star trek universe, and is the name of the secret police of the Romulan Empire. In one episode of Star Trek the Next Generation Lt.Cmdr. Troi is kidnapped and disguised as a Romulan Tal Shiar agent, so that she can take command of a military vessel and help high-ranking Romulan dissidents escape the clutches of the Empire.

Romulan Police/Intelligence organisation independant of the normal military. The Tal Shiar are on a par with the Cardassian Obsidian Order and the Federation's Section 31. They also had substantial military power, independant of the military, until a failed joint venture with the Obsidian Order to destroy the Founders.
