Television network which was formed as a spinoff from Nick At Nite, Nickelodeon's nighttime service of network reruns from the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's. TV Land's emphasis has been and continues to be on sitcoms, since the half hour format works so well for syndicated programs. Also, the channel has actually benefitted from the rise of the UPN, WB, and Fox networks as former affiliates thereof have less time to show old reruns of say, The Honeymooners or Welcome Back Kotter in order so that they may show Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its ilk.

Perhaps the most interesting feature on the channel has been the retromercial, showing ads from a bygone era such as the fast talking Federal Express guy. The channel is usually included in basic cable or satellite packages.
