The original film was lost during World War Two. Today's existing version of Sugata Sanshiro is a re-edited version from 1944.

A showdown between two men - a young undefeated judo master and the last but toughest champion of jujitsu. Prior to their match, one finds himself in the awkward position of having fallen in love with the other's master's daughter.
