The Subaru 1000 was first produced on May 14, 1966. This car is the father of the modern Subaru. It was the first Subaru to have a four cylinder horizontally opposed engine. It was also the first front wheel drive Subaru. Subaru later moved to four wheel drive, and eventually all wheel drive with the descendents of this car. At the time most front wheel drive cars had major vibration and rollover problems. Subaru fixed that by placing this engine longitudinally.

This node has been moved between 1000 and Subaru 1000 several times now. I always eventually get a note from Klaproth or an editor who thinks it should be under the other name.
