Most airplanes have a horizontal stabilizer and an elevator on the empennage, but some aircraft combine the two into one large moving surface called a stabilator. Like an elevator on an airplane a stabilator controls the pitch. A stabilator is frequently used on fighter aircraft due to the increase in control that they provide, of course other general aviation aircraft can be seen with them, mainly on some Piper aircraft.
