Originally a holding corporation for corporations such as
Sperry Gyroscope, Intercontinental Aviation, and
Ford Instrument Company. Sperry Gyroscope bought Remington Rand in 1955 to get rights to the UNIVAC computer. At this time, Sperry Gyroscope was renamed to Sperry Rand, but Rand was dropped from the name before the merger that produced Unisys.
