Some biblical scholars prefer this term to Son of Man, which is the usual translation from the Hebrew Bible into English. The range of meanings and connotations can be confusing. Sometimes it refers to an abject creature, a mere worm. Sometimes it refers to exalted beings who have dominion and are almost but not quite ranked with God. Sometimes it refers to a messianic figure who is expected with the eschaton.
