A UK socialist political party formed on Mayday 1996 by Arthur Scargill, formerly leader of the NUM during the 1984 Miner's Strike. The party initially attracted many Labour Party members, who were disillusioned with their abandonment of Clause 4 of its constitution, which committed the party to public ownership of key industries and services. The party has yet to have any significant electoral success.
