A term vastly preferable to "social studies," which is what they sometimes call history or civics in secondary school - or "social science," which can be misleading. Social researchers don't need to borrow the prestige of scientists, especially when their process may be valid and reliable but not particularly comparable to that of the hypothetical-deductive method that defines science. However, your mileage may vary.
