Skyhooks were a glam rock band that achieved incredible fame during the 1970s in their home nation of Australia.

Skyhooks' chief asset was their refusal to take themselves too seriously. Basically a good-time pub rock band, they added large serves of camp and teenybopperdom to their straight-ahead rock style, and found themselves the most popular act in their country.

The height of their fame was in the period from 1974 to 1978. In 1976 the band toured the US in an unsuccessful attempt to crack the US market.

The first member to leave the band was Red Symons in 1977, replaced by Bob Spencer. However in 1978, Shirley Strachan, their curly-headed frontman quit, and the band was unable to recover their former popularity, and formally broke up in 1980.

Various reunions occurred throughout the 1980s and 1990s, as is typical for old rock stars who miss the money and/or limelight, but Skyhooks were always about the 1970s.
