The award in MLB baseball given to the most productive player offensively at each position. It is similar to the golden glove. However, it receives little attention because unlike the golden glove, there are other awards for offensive abilities, such as the batting title, the Hank Aaron award and the home run crown.

Woundweavr's WU is mostly correct; however, there is one position at which the Silver Slugger is a worthwhile award: pitcher in the National League. (American League pitchers, of course, only bat during interleague games, so the award isn't given out for them, since they might only bat 10 times in a season.)

Members of the Atlanta Braves staff, especially Tom Glavine, have a tendency to pick this award up quite often, due to their tendency to actually take batting practice and care about their hitting, unlike most pitchers.
