Sigma Chi is one of the largest, college mens fraternal
organizations in the world with over 260,000 members. It was founded on June 28th, 1855 at Miami
University in Oxford, Ohio. Its founders were seven men who split off
from the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, they are: Issac M. Jordan,
Benjamin Piatt Runkle, Thomas Cowen Bell, William Lewis Lockwood,
Daniel William Cooper, James Parks Caldwell and Franklin Howard Scobey.
The purpose of the fraternity is to cultivate and maintain the high
ideals of friendship, justice and learning. Sigma Chi also takes a
special interest in leadership by hosting the largest annual leadership
conference known as Balfour.
