A condition caused by inhalation of iron oxide dust, or by the presence of metallic iron particles in the body. Iron in the lungs causes abnormal-looking X-ray appearances, but is not serious. In the eye, however, a penetrating iron foreign body causes gradual but severe chemical damage, which may lead to blindness.

Sid`e*ro"sis (?), n.[NL., fr. Gr. iron.] Med.

A sort of pneumonia occuring in iron workers, produced by the inhalation of particles of iron.
