Modern day
Fara or
Tall Fa'rah. An ancient city with habitation going back to the late
prehistoric period. Celebrated in
Sumerian legend as the home of
Ziusudra, and in The
Epic of Gilgamesh as the home of
Utnapishtim. In both stories, the sole human survivor of the
great flood (well actually, his wife also survived with him; but he was the major character in the story).
It is located in what is modern day Iraq.
