A Shanachie, in Scottish and Irish folklore, is a learned man, a historian, and, most importantly, a skilled storyteller. His stories are usually Gaelic folktales.

The word comes from the Scottish Gaelic seanachaidh, which derives from the Old Irish senchaid, which is a variant of senchae, meaning "historian." The root word, "sen-," simply means "old."

Shanachie Entertainment is a very very diverse record label.
