The actual Scarborough Fair took place in the late medieval times in the port town, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England.

The fair itself started August 15, and lasted 45 days. It was essentially a trading conference which drew people of all walks of life, from England and abroad, to the town of Scarborough. Eventually, Scarborough lost much of the sea trades, and other port towns grew in importance, and Scarborough returned to a "normal" town.
