Concrete instantiation of the idea of information wanting to be free! Open Source programs, or free collections of self-organizing information such as Slashdot or Everything can be examples of Samizdata.

This term originates from the Russian word samizdat which means self-published. It is a compound of sam (self) and izdat (to publish). By simply adding an a to the end we have a nice play on words that is more general than just open source code but refers to any kind of data or information.
