(Paul Pierre Roux)

French author and poet. Born 1861, died 1940.

Acknowledged a forerunner of the later surrealist movement, Saint-Pol-Roux wrote collections of poetry, such as Anciennetés (1903) and Les Féeries intérieures (1907), whose complex, allegorical and abstract imagery often is totally divorced from traditional symbolism and its impressionist approach.

From 1905, Saint-Pol-Roux lived in Bretagne as a virtual recluse.
