Former Republican mayor of Evansville, Indiana, Russell Lloyd was assasinated in his home on March 19, 1980 shortly after leaving office. His assasin Julie Van Orden, a 35-year-old Evansville woman, was angry with city officials. Lloyd served two terms as mayor from 1972 through 1980. The Lloyd Expressway in Evansville is named in honor of him. His son, Russell Lloyd, Jr., is currently mayor of Evansville.
